Perfect product. Recommended
Very accurate for what I would expect for the price. Assembly was quick and painless on the PROver compared to what I would expect for the base version, which looked like a nightmare. As a beginner CNC��r I��ve found that Fusion 360 and DrufelCNC make for perfect ��free�� tools to make everything work out of the box with the Mach3 controller. I��ve only used it on acrylic and (soft and hard) wood, so your mileage may vary on aluminum. I can see the bed extension in my future as well as a spindle upgrade, but after that it would be time for a bigboy CNC and let this thing just do the little projects.
This item is not easy for beginners or persons with little to no experience. I have called and emailed support to only further confusion and frustration.
Extremely easy to set up and get going. I have the MACH3 version and it does require understanding of the various configurations required on MACH3 all files are provided and website has detail information specific to the machine. The motor I am upgrading because the original is very weak even for wood, should sell the machines with the stronger motor from factory. At least two or three collets upto 1/4" would be nice as well. I am giving full stars because it does advertise as an engraving machine, however much more is possible with the proper motor, collet, and tools.
I needed custom engraved tags for electrical junction boxes and when I was getting prices online it was getting outrageous, plus there was a lead time. Buying this CNC proved well worth it and the tags are now at Oyster Point in south San Francisco.Instructions are clean and very easy and satisfying to follow. Everything fit perfect except for me not wanting to spend a lot of time aligning the T-nuts on the sides of the extrusions to attach the blue plexiglass side guards. It still installed just fine, just my t-nuts were a little crooked.If you have some experience running a CNC, you can have it homed and cutting within 15 minutes of it being built. The instructions were simple for setup on the flash drive. I built mine over the holidays and took my time with distractions so it probably took me a couple hours.Machine is moderately loud at 6000 rpm that it's tough to have a conversation with it running. It comes ready to run with items such as 4ea hold down clamps, 10ea V-shape carbide engraving bits with ER11 collet. Only thing it doesn't come up with some dust resistant lubricant for the threaded rods and maybe a sacrificial table surface. The extrusion router top is nice and I'd hate to scratch it.The machine is well engineered with all components appearing to be of just enough strength to work together to do its job of engraving. I engraved stick font (found font online to use in sketchup) into plastic 2-ply name tags. If the engraving is rough, slow it down or increase the number of passes (or both).As a disclaimer I have some Mach3 experience though it was years ago and I didn't feel like re-learning a new software. I used free version of Sketchup and added a plugin by phlatboyz. Years ago I watched video tutorials to self teach me how to use sketchup to make the designs, then use the plugin to convert to G-code and then cut in Mach3. I'm still learning fusion360 and because I needed to use this machine for a small job I stuck to the software i'm familiar with. Keep in mind that Mach3 demo only allows 50 lines of code which is enough to engrave like 14 simple letters so lookup the price of Mach3 before you go this route. If you are starting out brand new, I suggest you practice becoming familiar with Fusion360 and then converting to G-code for Mach3. Sketchup with plugins has its limitations.
This is my replacement set. Arrived intact. Have not used yet but they appear to be as described and of decent quality. First set arrived with broken drill bit.
Because the customer "service" from sainsmart is 105% useless. The machine did not work out of the box and trying to troubleshoot it over email has been fruitless, slow and aggravating. I need this device for my work, so it not working isn't an option. I may have no choice but to return it if I can't get it to work. Right now it's just the most expensive paper weight I've ever owned. Update: Finally, after 2 weeks of emailing with customer service, we were able to get my machine to work. Why they don't have a phone line available for customer support, I have no idea, but it's sorely needed. Lost weeks with this machine. Will update again once I'm able to test it out properly
I did my research on these 3018 machines and found that Saintsmart is supposed to be a reputable company that puts together the highest of quality 3018 CNC machines. I also bought the Saintsmart 5500mw laser module to go with this machine. I am only giving this 4 stars untill the problem with my machine and laser compatibility issue is addressed and corrected. My machine was sent with the MC5D3-V3. 3 control board which has no where to plug the laser 2 or 3 pin connectors into. I am hoping they just trade me the control board I have for one compatible with the laser. Overall though the machine is great and worth the money. I just need my $150 laser to work with the machine.
Instructions were terrible. Still haven��t been able to get the wiring right after a few months. Instructions skipped steps and don��t show complete product.
