OLED Screen dies too quickly

I got this in 2019 and I use it lightly. I went to use it last night after it has been sitting in a compartment in my component box and the screen did not come on. It did heat up and I used it, but man, I probably have less than 100 hours on this device and the screen has died just from sitting around.

Perhaps a new generation of soldering irons?

Wow ! It"s tiny, super light and amazingly fast to heat up! I find the ideal temperature for my solder is around 320C. What a difference to traditional soldering irons! Why only 4 stars? It comes in a nice box, but without the tip mounted. If you want to put back the iron in the box, you have to disassemble it.Not very practical, and for that price (which is value for money) a better suited box would have been worth the last star. But so far I love it...

Best soldering iron I have ever owned

I have been soldering electronic parts for 50 years. I often had to have several soldering irons going because of the variations in temperature of each one. This is an all-in-one tool. It heats to temperature in 5 seconds. You can adjust temperature in 10 degree C increments. The small size is a tremendous help. This is a must have if you are serious about quality soldering that doesn't damage the parts by being too hot.

Superb soldering iron.

Very compact. Very easy to use. Heats up in less than 20 seconds. Excellent control of temperature. Soldering with this little iron really does give great results. It's just as good as my soldering station that was 3 times the price.

Didn't Last, but Customer service is great!

Iron worked fine the first two or three uses. I tried to use it just over a month after I received it and it will not turn on. I believe it may just be a dead power supply, however I do not have another power brick to test the iron with so I do not know.Edit:The SainSmart Customer service has worked with me to get a replacement and after testing for a while I have had no problems with the power supply. I believe this is the cheapest listing for this particular model soldering iron (which is absolutely amazing by the way) and I would not let other bad reviews scare you off, as SanSmart will make sure you are satisfied with your purchase!

Great little solder iron

The soldering iron itself is great. It heats very quick with the included Power Supply, but as other noted the cord is extremly short. Guess that SainSmart assumed that everyone would be using this soldering iron with a workbench where you have the power strip on the back... that's how the set up was in my old job.I'll be looking for an adapter that has higher voltage output with a much longer cord.

Excellent Iron

Really excellent soldering iron, I've been using them all my life and have a pretty good idea of what makes for a good one. It heats up very quickly and maintains the temperature set very well. As mentioned by others, the power cord is fairly short, definitely could use an extension if you're working on anything while away from a table top. I had an old 20V laptop supply and after adding the correct tip it makes for a very nice supply, particularly since it uses a cord instead of a wall-wart like the included supply. I can't decide if I like the size of the iron or not, it is quite small compared to some I've used, though if you're taking it on-the-go that could be an advantage.Positives:Fast heat-up (About 10 seconds from room temp to 500F)Auto-sleep to a preset temp for very fast reheat from sleepC/F readout (After editing the config file)Custom, open-source firmwareBright OLED displayNegatives:Short power cableExpensive replacement heater+tips, no way to replace just tip ($12)I look forward to using it further, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts before I need to replace the tip.

A good soldering iron, but has some shortcomings

I have update below the first part:Part 1 (had two stars early). This device goes to infinite reset loop after power up. The only mode it works in - temperature calibration. It seems like SainSmart could not correctly change their logo in the original firmware by TS100. I was thinking to try to change firmware by the original one, but there are two problems:1. Physical - it requires micro USB connector with very thin plastic case around. The standard one would not fit with power plug.2. Organizational - I'm not sure whether SainSmart would accept return if I changed the firmware. So, I had to return this soldering iron. It's pity. Because this is the only device that sold for $55 with a power supply (19V 2.1A)If SainSmart guys read this review and would allow to change the firmware and return if it does not work, or change the firmware by themselves and send this device to me again, I'll likely can change my grade for this product. My due date to send it back to Amazon expires in several days, so I still can try to change it if it is allowed by the SainSmart.----------------------------------------------------------------Update (Part 2)SainSmart responded and provided another device to me. First I got the same problem with infinite power loop, but finally I got it working after watching this video[...]The confusing part is that after powering up GIF picture on display shows that button A should be pressed. And Instruction Manual says the same. And that is what I did and got infinite starting loop. However, this video above shows that button B should be pressed first (thermometer mode) and only after that Button A should be pressed to get into working mode. After I did it, I got the temperature rising up to 300 degrees. After that I figured out, that the first thing that MUST be done after first power on - temperature calibration. After that you can really press button A for all following powering ups.Have to note, that I tried to do temperature calibration on my first iron, but it did not help, it went to the starting loop again and again. Maybe there is really not enough power in the power supply that comes with the iron, as described in reply to this review by another guy. It could be.To finalize my review:PROS:1. For the price of the TS100 on aliexpress you get the soldering iron with power supply. I did not see that anybody else included the power supply.2. Very convenient pencil size soldering iron.3. Buying it from amazon guarantees shipping in expected time frame, not in 1.5-2 months.4. Guys from SainSmart are willing to collaborate to solve the issue.Contras:1. Short wire from the wall adapter. Would be great to have longer silicone cable.2. A little bit confusing firmware. Upon first power up it should show a picture for the temperature calibration. If solve these two contras, this device by SainSmart will have 5 stars.
